Thursday 20th - North End of The Straights
« on: October 21, 2011, 07:34:34 PM »
Difficult times with this weather but we got out and the youngest angler got a PB and a big lump on shore got one over us.

Three trawls with the seine gave poor results apart from shore and hermite crabs and with only 3 dozen eel we tried the Hole at Gallows Point. Shrimp rigs with lug tips gave us dozens of whiting but of a bigger size than we wanted. There were no pin codling
which were the target fish.
Anchored on a mark by Beaumaris and live baited whiting gave Darren a nice 4lb 1oz and young Grant Rice a PB of 5'lb 9oz. We were still celebrating this fish when a text picture ruined out day.
Big Ivan Peers was on a shore mark with two packs of mouldy frozen lug and the first cast had given him a 4" silvering but the second resulted in a 10lb3oz beauty.
Seen the photo and the fish is in a taxidermist on the Island now. £120 inc a basic case. Smiling Ivan in the George & Dragon is the last pic.

ON DIFFERENT MATTERS

When we came ashore at Beaumaris pier there were loads of codling/herring/doggies dumped. Obviously by netters. These guys are under the same financial pressures as the rest of us but they are ruining the fishing in the Straights not just for now. I'm reluctant to make phone calls to "THE AUTHORITIES" but something has to be done soon.
Big Ivan (see above) told us that at White Beach there was an obvious white slick coming from the fish farm. This slick followed the tide run round to the Lighthouse. The farm were "cleaning their tanks". Dumping it in the sea is not cleaning their tanks in my mind. It is putting their crap into our sea.
