Ardnamurchan Peninsular
« on: July 18, 2011, 04:39:58 PM »
Well ive just gotten back from a weeks camping on the shores of Loch Sunart and i couldn't have picked a better week to be away - fantastic weather all week bar the last day.

Some of you may remember i went there last year and had a great time and some cracking fishing too !
This year the weather was better, my time away was better - the fishing was . . . . absolute pants ! ! :(
Struggled to catch any mackeral at all - got some on the last night though when i didnt need them for bait.
otherwise we had a few small pollock, coalies, ballans and shannies.
though the fishing was dire, the wildlife i encountered was quite spectacular, including Deer, Porpoise, Seals, Otters, Eagles, Long Eared Owls,
Scottish Wildcats, Pine Martens, Mink and some other stuff i forgot.
The scenery is stunning, theres no litter, graffiti or other stuff so many of us take for granted living in built up areas.
The people were really polite too - someone heard i was struggling to catch mackerel for bait and we came back to find a bag of them - now thats community spirit ! !

i'll let the pictures tell you more than i am able to with words. . .

the poor dog suffered very badly on the first night  the poor thing - she was suicidal i think  :o
Avon skin-so-soft worked a treat for her.
we used some 50% deet tropical repellant from boots and it did the job very well indeed !

Hi Cabbie, Ive been out to Ardnamuchan just the once but wow what a place. we visited the lighthouse (the most westerly point of mainland uk. Two sights stick in my mind one was a herd of red deer paddling among the kelp in one of the sea lochs and the other was seeing a white tailed sea eagle fly overhead with a rabbit in its talons, oh yes and eating venison burgers in the little shop at acharacle.
fishing for the future {thu}catch and release

i had venison burgers at archacle too - bloody nice they were too - also had some at strontian as well - they were just as nice  ;D
its a very underrated meat - low in fat, high in proteine and fantastic in flavour - i prefer it to beef but the price is a little high for it to be a regular in my diet  ;)
